“Meanwhile, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant stood on dry ground in the middle of the riverbed as the people passed by. They waited there until the whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.” Joshua 3:17
Crossing the Jordan was not only about Israel entering a new territory. It also reveals something powerful about the posture required of those who carry God’s presence into new seasons. We see from the scripture that the priests had a very different experience from everyone else. While the people crossed, the priests carried. While others hurried, they stood. While others reached the other side, they remained in the middle. They moved when God said move and stayed when God said stay.
As believers, we are called a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). This means transition cannot simply be about where we are going; it must also be about how we carry God as we go. Crossing into something new does not mean we abandon the disciplines that brought us there. In fact, new territory often requires a deeper consciousness of God’s presence.
The priests who crossed the Jordan show us seven important postures which we will study over the next seven days as we trust the the Holy Spirit to guide us into the revelation of the posture we must maintain to carry God well into what He has promised. Click here to download the series.
